Where have all the woolly bears gone?
The woolly bears have been predicting winter snows in this county since 2013. This fall, however, the brown and black caterpillars can’t be found to make their prediction. They prefer a cooler climate, so the high summer temperatures with dry weather may be the reason they are missing.
According to snow records from the past 11 years, Pendleton County receives an average of 64 days of snow falling from the sky. Since there are no woolly bears to rely on for information, Pendletonians will have to make their own predictions this winter.
