Lacy Berry Bennett, 89, of Cherry Grove passed away peacefully at his home on Dec. 22, 2023, comforted and surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on April 3, 1934, in Cherry Grove, the son of the late Berry and Nellie (Bennett) Warner.
Mr. Bennett attended Hunting Ground one-room school and Cherry Grove Baptist Church.
He had worked in construction and logging and was a jack of all trades. He will be remembered for his gentle words of wisdom and his loving and encouraging spirit. He cherished time spent with his family and devoted time to making memories with each of them.
On May 29, 1958, he married his wife of 65 years, Mottie Bennett, who survives.
In addition to his wife, he leaves behind to cherish his memory two daughters, Susan Harper (Stanley) of Riverton and Nancy Barkley (Rick) of Cherry Grove; a son, Bobby Bennett (Lena) of Cherry Grove; six grandchildren, Carrie Kisamore, Scott Harper, Justin Barkley, Ashley Hedrick, Berry Bennett, and Brittianna Davis; three step-grandchildren, Nicole Buckley, Debra Stumbo and JD Stumbo; 12 great-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren; five sisters, Mabel Mick and Barbara Hardy, both of Broadway, Virginia, Catherine Arbaugh and Floda Vandevander, both of Cherry Grove, and Mary Marshall (Mike) of Blue Grass, Virginia; a brother, John Warner (Robin) of Orange Park, Florida; and several nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by a brother, Arnold Bennett; and three sisters, Peachie Bennett, Arlene Mick, and Pauline Arbaugh.
Funeral services were held Dec. 27 at the Basagic Funeral Home chapel in Franklin, with Pastor Angie Cosner and Pastor George Lambert, Jr. officiating. Interment was in the Mick-Bennett Cemetery in Blue Grass, Virginia.
