Kevin Brent “Redbone” Cross, 70, of Franklin passed away Feb. 10, 2024, at his home.
He was born on March 12, 1953, in Fairmont, the son of the late Blaine and Charlotte “Jean” (Snodgrass) Cross.
Mr. Cross was a 1971 graduate of Mannington High School and was a Christian by faith. He was a member of the Mannington Moose Lodge #1344, Mannington Elks Lodge #388, and the United Mine Workers.
He owned and operated Upper Tract Bar and Grill, better known “Redbone’s.”
Mr. Cross had worked various jobs until February 1975, when he started working for Eastern Federal #2 Mine. In 1978, he was elected head of the United Mine Workers Mine Safety and served in that position until his retirement in 1995. He was also a member of the underground firefighting team and a member of a select team trained to cut through gas wells underground.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory three cousins, Cheryl Smith, Deana Raulerson (Roger), and Donna Hough (Bobby); an aunt, Mary Lou Hendershot of Lakeland, Florida; countless friends of 30 years, including, Larry Curry and Kenneth and Joy Warner.
He was also preceded in death by a brother, Brian Keith Cross.
In honoring his wishes, his body has been cremated.
