James Arthur Simmons, 84, of Franklin passed away April 26, 2022, at Sentara RMH in Harrisonburg, Virginia.
He was born on May 26, 1937, in Ft. Seybert, the son of the late Curtis and Mary (Hartman) Simmons.
Mr. Simmons attended Brandywine School and Fairview Bethel Church.
He had worked as a sheet metal handler at Dunham-Bush for 34 years, from 1967-2001, and he was a member of the Sheet Metal Workers Local #100.
On July 17, 1967, he married Betty (Harold) Simmons, who survives.
In addition to his wife, he leaves behind to cherish his memory, two sons, James A. Simmons, Jr. (Martha) of Tuscumbia, Alabama, and William Jeffrey Simmons (Janet) of Staunton, Virginia; three sisters, Marie Mitchell of Franklin, Shirley Mitchell of Harrisonburg, Virginia, and Karen Warble of Texas; two brothers, Randy Simmons (Anna) and William Olin Simmons, all of Franklin; and a grandson, Dalton of Franklin.
He was also preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy Madeline Shifflett (January 2005).
Funeral services were held Saturday in the chapel of the Basagic Funeral Home in Franklin with Pastor Mike Loudermilk officiating. Interment was in the Fairview Cemetery at Ft. Seybert with Military Honors conducted by the United States Army, Camp Dawson representatives.
