The descendants and friends of the late Isaac and Lucy Vandevander Hartman gathered July 27 for their annual two-day reunion.
The weather was perfect for a hayride to start the reunion. This year’s hayride went on 220 South to Powder Mill Run Road onto Oak Grove Road then back onto Smith Creek Road. The tractors were furnished by Larry Armentrout and Lynn Warner with Matt Pennybacker furnishing the wagons. Adam and Katie Hott supplied the hay. Tractors were driven by Lyle Hartman and Lynn Warner.
Joyce Calhoun, president, and Betty Kimble, vice president, expressed gratitude to attendees for what they did to help in any way with this year’s reunion, from the donation of supplies to helping with the set up.
The blessing for the evening meal was given by Patricia Bodkin. The meal consisted of hot dogs and pork, which was prepared by Jasper, Jay and Josh Hartman, Matthew Calhoun and Darren Hedrick. Mac and cheese and Uncrustables were furnished with families assigned side dishes.
A new game this year for children 12 and under was finding the mini ducks which were hidden all around the reunion grounds. The winners, which tied for the big plush duck, were Braxton Kimble and Eric Frye who both found 54 little ducks. They will split their time with this duck.
Evening entertainment was provided by Mike Eye with Steve Clutter accompanying him. Hits from the late 70s early 80s were sung.
On Sunday, David Hartman gave the lunch blessing for the bountiful meal.

Cindy Hartman, historian/secretary, reported family updates for 2023-2024. There were 11 marriages, 28 births, and eight deaths. One death that was not included in the Isaac and Lucy updates was Woodrow Hartman. He was the nephew of Isaac and attended the reunion religiously. Woodrow passed away on March 24 at the age of 107.
Recognized from the direct line of Isaac and Lucy were Stanley Simmons (oldest male first cousin, 88), Diana Crawford (oldest female first cousin, 70), Brett Chapman (youngest male, 19 months), Nayeli Jones (youngest female, 5 months), Stanley and Sherry Simmons (longest married, 62 years), Tavita and Mia Ah Loe (shortest married, 2 months), Larry and Carla Hartman (largest family present, 36) and Rob and Latrisha Frye and family (traveling farthest, Napa, California).
The trivia game about the 14 children of Isaac and Lucy was played again this year. The game is to help the family to know more about the siblings.

Winners of the cake walk were Tiffany Ah Loe, Michelle Comer, Eve Hott, Sydney and June Gillis, James Smith Talia Ah Loe, Maggie Murray, Jayden Hartman, Sydney Hoover, Ridley and Reese Hartman.
Treasures in the hay was provided for children ages 3-7 and 8-12, and items were furnished by Perry and Linda Simmons.
Water balloon toss for children 12 and under winners were Taylor Frye and Carolina Kimble. Adult balloon toss winners were Rob and Latrisha Frye.
Egg toss for 12 and under winners were Eve Hott and Taylor Frye. Adult egg toss winners were Seth Chapman and Isaac Hartman.
Reunion attendance was 131 on Saturday and 148 on Sunday.
Next year’s reunion is scheduled for July 26 and 27.
