Forest L. Greenawalt, 86, of Bourbonnais, Illinois, passed away Dec. 12, 2023, at Riverside Medical Center in Kankakee, Illinois.
He was born April 24, 1937 in Kline, the son of the late David and Clara (Alexander) Greenawalt.
Mr. Greenawalt was a civil engineer for the Illinois Department of Transportation. He graduated from Berea College in Kentucky for his undergraduate degree and received his master of arts degree from the University of Illinois.
He was a world traveler and went on multiple mission trips with his church. He planted more than 3000 trees around his home. He had a wonderful sense of humor and loved to make people laugh. He was a member of College Church of the Nazarene in Bourbonnais, Illinois.
On Aug. 9, 1975, he married Rachel Champion in Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania. His wife of 48 years survives.
Also surviving are a daughter, Keren Greenawalt-Russell and Jason Russell of Peoria, Illinois; and many nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by six brothers, Willie, Vernon, Carl, Fred, Hugh, and Dale; and two sisters, Geneva and Twila.
A funeral service was held Friday at the College Church of the Nazarene in Bourbonnais, Illinois.
The family will receive friends from noon until 1 p.m. Friday at the Mt. Horeb United Methodist Church in Mozer. A funeral service will follow at the church with Pastor David Webb officiating. Interment will be at Kline Cemetery in Kline.
Memorials may be made to the donor’s choice in his name.
