Members of the Pendleton County FFA Chapter attended and competed at the 96th annual West Virginia FFA State Convention held July 10 – 13 at Cedar Lakes in Ripley. Attending were Kaylee Callison, Lydia Heavner, Ty Heavner, McKenna Hedrick, Ella Johnston, Gena Lambert, Makayla Tingler and Lucas Vandevander.
Opening day was full of competitions. The parliamentary procedure team consisting of Lydia Heavner, Hedrick, Callison, Lambert, Johnston and Tingler competed in the first round. Also competing in the first round of their respective contests were Ty Heavner in freshman creed, Johnston in upperclassman creed and Lydia Heavner in prepared speech.
The parliamentary procedure team and Lydia Heavner advanced to the final rounds in their respective competitions. The parliamentary procedure team placed third with Heavner placing third in the speech contest.
Ty Heavner also competed in the tractor driving contest in the zero-turn lawnmower division.
Pendleton members earning their State FFA Degrees were Caleb Armentrout, Kaylee Callison, Lydia Heavner, McKenna Hedrick, Bailee Kiger, Jenna Smith, Makayla Tingler and Lucas Vandevander.
Lindsey Smith achieved recognition for earning the 2024 WV Poultry Proficiency and for being an American Degree candidate. Brandon Lantz is also a candidate for the American FFA Degree.
The chapter received recognition for being a National Chapter program. If approved on the national level, the chapter will be recognized at the National Convention in October.
