Dottie (Harman) Roy, 89, of Petersburg passed away May 22, 2024, at the Grant Rehabilitation and Care Center in Petersburg.
She was born on June 26, 1934, at Seneca Rocks, the youngest daughter of the late Ivan and Gae (Vance) Harman.
Mrs. Roy graduated from Circleville High School in 1952 and soon married her husband of 71 years, Herbert Howard Roy. The couple then moved to Maryland where she worked as a secretary at High Point High School and her husband as the carpenter for the Washington Star.
West Virginia pulled them home and she became an early and periodic screening, diagnostic and treatment specialist for the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Services while her husband taught carpentry at the South Branch Career and Technical Center. When she retired, she continued to work part-time as an office assistant at the Grant County Health Department.
She was a member of the Dixie CEOS and in 2005, she was selected as the Pendleton County Belle for the West Virginia Folk Festival in Glenville. Right up until the end of her life, she was a staunch member of the Pendleton County Republican Committee.
Her husband, Herbert Howard Roy, preceded her in death on Jan. 17, 2023.
Surviving are a son, Kevin Howard Roy and his wife, Angel of Seneca Rocks; a brother, John Verzich (Kathy) of Riverton; two grandchildren, Jamie Roy (Kim) and Rachelle Roy; three great-grandchildren, Tyler, Kole, and Brynn; and two special friends, Mary Hawk and Carol Breen.
She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Louise Bowers and Juanita O’Neil Clutter.
In honoring her wishes, her body was cremated and a private service will be held later.
