On Oct. 12 members of the Alpha Kappa Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International met at Duffey Methodist Church in Moorefield. Twenty-six members and four visitors attended the meeting which was sponsored by Hampshire County. The theme of the meeting was “DKG Proud!” with the group’s colors represented by the members wearing red clothing and by the tables being adorned with red roses as centerpieces. A delicious breakfast was catered by Duffey Women’s Circle. Karen Davis gave the blessing.
Donna Bodkins led the group in reciting the Pledge of Allegiance, and Peggy High read the meditation.
New handbooks were distributed to everyone. Members reviewed them for corrections.
Delta Kappa Gamma does a project during each meeting. This month, purses were filled with toiletries and other items for women suffering from domestic violence. Forty-nine handbags were filled and were sent to Eastern Regional Family Service Network for distribution.
Members shared a few of their experiences as members of DKG. JoAnn Harman discussed the benefits of the organization. Ruby Alvaro, who was one of the founding members of the Alpha Kappa Chapter, shared differences between meetings in the past and current meetings. Bodkins shared how and why she became a member and that DKG does many projects. Becky Heavner talked about leading learning sessions at the state DKG conference.
