Bennie Nolan Shaver, 87, of South Fork and Moorefield passed away suddenly Jan. 11, 2025, at Grant Memorial Hospital in Petersburg.
Born Sept. 27, 1937, at Fort Seybert, he was a son of the late Rev. Alferd Jesse Shaver and Wilma Viriginia Eye Shaver Zirk.
A proud graduate of Franklin High School in 1956, Mr. Shaver served his country with distinction as a military police officer in the United States Army. His commitment to service continued throughout a respected 38-year career in law enforcement, where he dedicated himself to the protection and well-being of his community. He was a proud retired police officer, whose integrity and dedication were only matched by his warm and welcoming spirit.
He was a devoted member of Mount Carmel Church of the Brethren at Milam.
He was the last member of his immediate family.
He was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather.
Left to cherish in his memory are his wife JoAnn Grace Kuykendall Shaver; a son, Darrell Jesse Shaver; a daughter-in-law, Miranda Gillespie; and a beloved granddaughter, Patricia Dove Shaver. Also surviving are many extended family members, including sisters-in-law, Faye Shaver and Mary Lou Johnson, and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.
He was also preceded in death by a brother, Rev. B. Eugene Shaver; two sisters, Mary Florence Dettra and her husband, John Dettra, and Martha Lyne Clarke and her husband, Presley Clarke.
A funeral service to honor his extraordinary life will take place at 11 a.m. today at the Fraley Funeral Home Chapel located at 107 Washington Street in Moorefield. The service will be officiated by Pastor Russell Webster and will include military rites by the U.S. Army to honor his service. Friends and family are invited to gather and share their memories of Mr. Shaver from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.
