Arthur Junior Sawyers, 71, of Fort Seybert went to be with his heavenly father on Feb. 7, 2023, while a patient at Virginia Commonwealth University Medical Center in Richmond, Virginia.
He was born Oct. 28, 1951, in Bluefield, Virginia, and was the son of the late Junior Frazier Sawyers and Ethel Marie (Alley) Sawyers.
Mr. Sawyers was a veteran, having served in the U.S. Army, a plumber by trade, a jack of all trades and a master of many. He had a great work ethic and loved helping others. He enjoyed working with leather and created numerous belts and gun slings for many around the county.
He loved the Lord and was an active member of Christ Central Community Church. He was a past member of the South Fork Ruritan Club.
He loved his family dearly. He also loved hunting and was a Master of Archery and Master Scuba Diver in his younger years.
The love of his life, his wife of 50 years, Mary (Breece) Sawyers, survives.
Also surviving are a daughter, Amanda Fike and husband, Doug; two sons, Jason Sawyers and fiancée, Jarell Sowell of Moorefield, and Steven Toney of Tazewell, Virginia; three sisters, Virgie Lane, Shelby Orlando (Cory) and Dreama Adams (Tony); seven grandchildren, Fanta Kaba, Bintou Kaba (Tyler Seabolt), Salou Sawyers, Amanda Sawyers, Jae’Sean Sawyers, Janiyah Sawyers and Kellan Sawyers; and three great-grandchildren, Tashaun, Nailah and Omilani Seabolt.
A funeral service was held on Sunday at Christ Central Community Church near Upper Tract with Pastor Sam Harper officiating. Military honors were accorded by the West Virginia Army Honor Guard. Private interment was at Oaklawn Cemetery near Franklin.
