Alpha Kappa Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma Education Society International met March 19 at the Forman Community Center in Lahmansville. Pendleton County sisters decorated the tables in green with a St. Patrick’s Day theme. Each member was given an inspirational quote and homemade maple fudge with recipe. Cynthia Yokum gave the blessing before a delicious breakfast catered by Betty Coffman was enjoyed. Becky Heavner read the inspiration thoughts, “Lessons from Spring.” Ann Bennett led the Pledge of Allegiance.
Rosanne Glover shared a tribute of memories from Ruth Ann Columbia’s life. She highlighted her contributions to education in Grant County, her love for family, music, and the Lord. One of her fellow teachers, Lynne Petrosky, sent a $100 donation to the chapter in her memory.
Vickie Skavenski, chapter president, presented the program “Little Dresses for Africa.” She provided a pattern so that members could make dresses for little girls in Africa, the group’s October project.
Nine names were presented for membership. Sisters were asked to bring an item in April to fill welcome bags for these ladies.
The date of the April meeting was changed from April 16 to April 23 so as not to conflict with Easter. The meeting will be held at the Moorefield Middle School with Mineral County hosting.
The current slate of officers was elected for the next biennium: president – Skavenski, first vice president – Carolyn Harper, second vice president – Bennett, recording secretary – Amber Champ, treasurer- Beverly Mathias and corresponding secretary – Angela Propst.
Gayle Allen, Bennett, Donna Bodkins, Susan Garrett, JoAnn Harman, Betty Inskeep and Skavenski were presented the Local Leading Lady Award with a certificate and a pin designed by Vickie Saville. This award is presented by the state organization to honor members who volunteer locally. The R.O.S.E. award was given to Vickie Saville, recognizing her contributions to the chapter including rewriting the Founder’s Day Skit, designing the Leading Lady pin and compiling a digital scrapbook for West Virginia State Leadership Conference.
Glover led the singing of the Delta Kappa Song before the meeting adjourned.
