Sharon Jean Phares, 78, went to be with the Lord on Aug. 31, 2023. She passed away unexpectedly at her home in Circleville.
She was born March 18, 1945, at Elkins and was the daughter of the late Ressie Carr and Thelma Jean Warner Carr.
Mrs. Phares was raised on the Hunting Ground near Spruce Knob and graduated from Circleville High School in 1964.
She was a woman of many talents. She worked as a custodian and cook for the school system and loved the kids as her own. To her, farming was her life. Just the day before, she was gathering items to prepare to feed a calf.
She cooked, gardened, and canned as if she was feeding an entire community, and she did. She grew items she wouldn’t eat because she knew someone else loved it. If a person came to visit, one left with a belly full. She had an incredible ability to make a person feel like one was her favorite. Her selfless heart was always caring for someone or something else, and she needed continuous reminders to care for herself. She never lost her faith and remained inspiring, constant, unchanged, and courageous her entire life. She invested her time and love into everyone’s lives and was a faithful servant of God. She was a member of the North Fork Baptist Church.
On June 7, 1964, she married George R. Phare, her husband of 54 years who preceded her in death on June 6, 2018. They resided on the Phares’ Farm and soon began their family.
She and her husband had five children, Luci Raines and husband, Billy, Benjamin Phares and wife, Rhiannon, Neil Phares and wife, Marcie, Melinda Sherman and husband, Britt, and Amy Phares (1972 – 1999); nine grandchildren, Ashlee Ratcliffe, Courtnie Butler, Austin Phares, Tyler Phares, Hannah Kaplinger, Madison Phares, Landon Phares, Kathryn Phares and Benson Phares; and seven great-grandchildren, Laken, Kendall, Brynn, Reese, Avalyn, Kaycen and one on the way. A brother, Bill Warner, and wife, Grace, also survive.
She was also preceded in death by a sister, Jo Learned.
A funeral service was held Sept. 4 at the North Fork Baptist Church in Riverton with Pastor Mike Clements officiating. Interment was at North Fork Memorial Cemetery in Riverton.
Memorials may be made to North Fork Baptist Church, PO Box 46, Riverton, WV 26814.
