Clayton Carter Kisamore of Seneca Rocks was the recipient of the 2023 Jefferson Read Byers Memorial Scholarship. He is the son of Kevin and Wendy Kisamore.
As a student at Pendleton County High School, Kisamore was a member of the National Honor Society and FFA and an honor roll student. He was also involved in sports, playing football, basketball and baseball.
His favorite recreational activities include sports and enjoying the outdoors with hunting and fishing as favorite pastimes.
Awarded each year to a graduating senior at PCHS, the scholarship was established in memory of Jefferson Read Byers. He was a student at Franklin High School and tragically killed in an automobile accident on Feb. 9, 1973, when returning from an FHS basketball game in Wardensville at which time he was a team manager.
The scholarship is given each year to a student, who, upon recommendation by school faculty, has demonstrated Christian character, ideals and values, has shown concern for others, enthusiasm and love of live, interest, steadfastness, fairness and a determination to do what is best in whatever is attempted.
Kisamore plans to attend Eastern West Virginia Community and Technical College and study business management.
