Clarence August Hoten, 81, of Beckley passed away July 19, 2023, at his home.
He was born on Dec. 29, 1941, in Chesaning, Michigan, the son of the late Shier and Esther (Verga) Hoten.
Mr. Hoten graduated from Chesaning Union High School in Michigan.
He was a member of Cedar Grove Church of the Brethren and he enjoyed fishing and coin collecting. Being a history buff, he also enjoyed storytelling, blue grass music, and a good cigar. He retired in 2004 from Cargill Poultry.
He was a veteran of the United States Air Force, where he served as a maintenance supervisor/head mechanic and was honored to have serviced Air Force One that carried the president of the United States.
His wife, Rebecca Ann (Gillispie) Hoten, preceded him in death on Feb. 2, 2012.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory a daughter, Jennifer Hoten of Harrisonburg, Virginia; a son, C.C. Hoten (Sara) of Beckley; a sister, Deborah “Debbie” Spencer (Terry) of Chesaning, Michigan; two brothers, Bruce Hoten and Kurt Hoten, both of Chesaning, Michigan; and two grandchildren, Aaron “Bubbi” and Airidesa Hoten.
He was also preceded in death by a sister, Judith Hoten.
Funeral services were held Monday at Cedar Grove Church of the Brethren in Brandywine with Pastor Mark Bowser officiating and military honors conducted by the US Air Force.
