Sixteen Pendleton County 4-H members attended the 2023 Beef Expo at Jackson’s Mill on April 7 to participate in the stockman’s contest, which included judging breeding cattle, feeder calves, identifying cuts of beef, identifying different forage species, and answering basic quality assurance questions. Many of these participants were first time attendees.
Participating in the days event were Hannah Heavner, Katie Heavner, Lydia Heavner, Tia Heavner, Tori Heavner, Ty Heavner, McKenna Hedrick, Bella Hoover, Kallie Keyser, Katie Keyser, Jameigh Miller, Phoebe Pownell, Ross Pownell, Aiden Whetzel, Marion Williams and Maycee Woods.
One senior team participated in the senior contest, while three teams participated in the junior contest.
Pendleton Team #1, which consisted of Phoebe Pownell, Katie Keyser, Katie Heavner, and Tia Heavner, placed second in the competition. Phoebe Pownell, Katie Keyser and Katie Heavner placed in the top 20 with the sixth, 12th, and 16th highest individual scores, respectively.
Pendleton Team #2 placed ninth in the state with team members Whetzel, Woods, Kallie Keyser, and Hannah Heavner.
Pendleton Team #3 consisted of team members Ross Pownell, Williams, Tori Heavner, and Hoover.
The Pendleton County Senior team members were Miller, Ty Heavner, Lydia Heavner, and Hedrick.
