A small repair and autobody shop blossomed into multiple shops, including a diesel and auto sales location over the past four decades.
Ted Davis, owner of Ted Davis Auto Sales, started a small repair business 40 years ago, after he found himself without a job.
He worked for Sites Chevrolet until 1981 when the business closed its doors for the last time. It was then that Davis had to make the decision on what career he wanted to go to next.
He said, “There wasn’t many jobs here at the time and I didn’t want to work in a factory. Honestly, I liked what I was doing, working on cars.”
With the knowledge he got from his father, George Davis, who was a mechanic, and the experience he gained working for Sites Chevrolet, Ted Davis decided to start his own business.
He said in 1984 they got their license to sell used cars. Outgrowing the small shop in the Bland Hills on North Mountain, the business relocated in the summer of 1987 to Circleville. In September of 1996, the business moved to the current location in Riverton.
Ted Davis said he could not have “survived” without “all the many customers, friends and family that have supported us over the years.” He added, “May God bless you all and it has been wonderful to serve you for the past 40 years.”
In discussing the 40 years of service to the county, Ted Davis said the years have flown by and it doesn’t seem possible. He expressed how he just tries to keep his name honest and actively tries to give back to the county by supporting local businesses by advertising locally. He stated that the “community will grow and benefit if we all buy local.”
He hopes to pass down the business to his son, Seth Davis, who runs the diesel shop, when he retires and hopes the business will have “many more years to come.”
