The annual Slusher Scramble was held Sept. 20 during the Treasure Mountain Festival at the Fisher Mountain Golf Club. In spite of some intermittent drizzle, the day was perfect and warm with a nice breeze, and the course was perfect for competitive play.
The winner was Team Thompson, sponsored by T&K Markets. Second place went to Team Moose of Franklin, and coming in third was Team Bocock from Harrisonburg, Virginia.

The proceeds of the tournament add to the fund of the Leo Slusher Award, which provides a generous and increasing scholarship to a Pendleton County High School senior. The award focuses on athletic participation, sportsmanship and community service, which were the outstanding character attributes of Leo Slusher. He gave back to the Franklin community through the high school Sports Booster Club, the many concession stands for all athletic events both school and community, the Treasure Mountain Festival committee, the Ruritan Club, the Lions Club, Brandywine Christian Church, Relay for Life, and others. He is greatly remembered for his famous hot dogs and his gold tooth smile.
The Leo Slusher Award was established to celebrate a graduating senior who embodies these characteristics and has future life goals in place. Applications are open in January with the presentation at the PCHS Awards Ceremony in May.
