It is with profound sadness that the family announces the unexpected passing of their beloved Denise Lamb-Willis, who departed this life on Sept. 16, 2026.
She was born in North Carolina and raised between North Carolina and Maryland. She was the youngest child of Brookie Coston Lamb and Joseph Lamb.
To know Mrs. Willis was to experience genuine kindness. This world has lost one of its angels, one of the most thoughtful, caring, considerate, and steadfast people anyone could ever hope to meet. Whether a person had known her for years or was meeting her for the first time, she had a special way of making one feel welcomed, valued, and loved.
Running was one of her greatest passions. She ran through the rain, the snow, and the heat. No weather could slow her down or keep her from doing what she loved. Her determination as a runner reflected how she lived her life, with strength, consistency, and purpose.
She loved deeply, freely, and without condition. Nothing meant more to her than her sons. She would often say with great pride and affection, “Oh, them boys, them boys, I love them beyond measure!” Her love for them could be heard in her voice, seen in her smile, and felt in everything she did.
It is extremely difficult for the family to lay her to rest. However, they find some peace in their faith and in believing that she has been reunited with her beloved youngest son, Monte.
Franklin held a special place in her heart from the moment she first visited. She loved its natural beauty, especially the mountains, and she was deeply fond of the people of Franklin. Many years ago, she expressed her wish that when her Heavenly Father called her home, she wanted to be laid to rest among these beautiful mountains. The family now lovingly honors that wish.
She leaves to cherish her memory her devoted husband of 39 years, Terry Willis; her beloved son, Tavone Willis; her mother, Brookie Coston Lamb, whom she adored; her brother, Joseph Coston; and many extended family members and dear friends whose lives were made better by knowing her.
She was preceded in death by her beloved youngest son, Monte Willis, and her father, Joseph Lamb.
“Denise, until we see you again, and through faith, we believe we will …rest peacefully. Thank you for your love, your kindness, your strength, and every beautiful memory you gave us.
“We will love you, miss you, and cherish you forever.”
The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the Basagic Funeral Home in Franklin. Funeral services will follow in the funeral home chapel. Interment will be at the Willis Family Cemetery in Franklin.
