Schools thrive when parents and community members come together to support student success. I commend the businesses and residents of Pendleton County for their ongoing commitment to our students and staff. As we strive to continue providing excellence in education, I encourage the community to take an active role in the learning experiences of our children. When families and community partners are actively engaged, students show improved attendance, better academic progress, and greater confidence. There are many meaningful ways to make a difference in a child’s life.

Parent-teacher organizations and the Local School Improvement Council are a great means of strengthening communication but also provide assistance with events, field trips, and fundraisers. Support for teachers and valuable feedback create a positive school environment. Other organizations include the Parent-Educator Resource Center and the Healthy Grandfamilies Program. Attending these organizations and programs is an impactful way to support students.

One of the greatest gifts we can offer students is time. By volunteering to read with a child, practice math fluency, or assist with homework, you help strengthen foundational skills that benefit students for years to come. Even one session a week can build confidence, improve literacy and numeracy, and show students that their community cares about their success. If you are interested, please contact your school to receive information about being an approved volunteer.

Finally, we invite local business owners, artists, musicians, and community leaders to be guest speakers. By sharing your talents and career experiences, you can inspire students to explore new interests and to consider future opportunities. Community members from all professions can inspire students by sharing their personal stories. Guest speakers help students see the various career options and motivate them to pursue their goals.

Pendleton County Schools greatly appreciates our volunteers and business partners.

If you have any questions or interest, please call or email me, 304-358-2207 or nh******@****wv.us. I will be glad to help you with the process of joining an organization, becoming an approved volunteer, or being a guest speaker.
