The count for the turnout for the Town of Franklin elections barely needed more than two hands as five incumbents were re-elected to the council.
Kristin Dingess, Genevieve Glover and Edwin Wimer will return to the council, and Bob Horan and Bruce Minor were re-elected as mayor and recorder, respectively. Town officials announced 13 ballots were cast for the June 14 election. There were seven early ballots and six voters cast their ballot on Election Day.
Dingess and Horan each received 13 votes. Glover, Minor and Wimer all received 12 votes.
Three current members of the town council – Clay Richardson, Dingess and Wimer – as well as Horan and Minor approved the election results during a canvas of the ballots at their June 15 meeting. Dingess, Horan, Minor and Richardson gathered on June 17 to unanimously certify the election at the town office.
Frank Wehrle, town manager, said the elected members of the town council are expected to be sworn into office no later than their July 12 meeting. He added the council members are also expected at the meeting to select two other individuals to serve on the council.
The total number of ballots cast in this year’s election is the lowest in the last three elections. There were 92 ballots cast in the 2018 election. Town officials said 20 early ballots were cast during that year’s election. There were seven candidates vying for the five spots on the town council.
The 2020 election had six candidates battling for the five seats on the town council. Town officials said there were 88 ballots cast during that election
