It is with heavy hearts that the family announces the passing of their beloved Robert R. Lewis of Dover, Ohio, who went to his heavenly home to be cleansed by the Lord and Savior on Oct. 22, 2025.
He was born on Aug. 16, 1937, in Carroll County, Ohio, to the late Howard and Osa (Moyer) Lewis.
Mr. Lewis attended Carrollton High School.
He was employed for 40 years at Kopp Clay Corporation, formally Malvern Flue Lining in Malvern, Ohio, and retired in 1994. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in New Philadelphia, Ohio, and the Dover Eagles. He enjoyed repairing and working on most anything, and he dedicated his life to helping so many people. He never found a job or task that wasn’t worth spending time on. For many years he produced large fruit/vegetable gardens which he was so proud of as well as using his Ford tractor.
He was affectionally known by many and was a shining light in the lives of all who had known him. His journey on this earth was one marked by love, compassion and devotion to family and friends. His greatest love was his family and spending time with them. His passing has left a void in the hearts of his family and friends. The family asks that one remembers him not for the way his life ended but for the way it was lived and for the profound impact it had on the lives of those who had the pleasure of knowing him, that infectious smile, laughter and the many stories he shared about his life. He never met a stranger; he had a heart of gold and wanted everyone to be happy and to love life. The family thanks him for his love and guidance, and they will carry his memory in their hearts forever. He will be sorely missed until all are reunited one day.
He and his wife, Mabel, enjoyed many good times as “snowbirds” in Sarasota, Florida, where he loved the warm sunshine and rooting her on while she played shuffleboard. They also spent many adventurous trips to West Virginia to visit family and work on the farms.
He sadly leaves behind his loving wife of 68 years, Mabel (Bennett) Lewis whom he married on June 8, 1957.
Also surviving are children Michael (Carol) Lewis of Tuscarawas, Ohio, and Michelle (Roger) Venzin of Fairfield, Pennsylvania; and grandchildren, Kellie Lewis of Concord, North Carolina, and Anthony Venzin of Fairfield, Pennsylvania; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins, who he shared a uniquely close and loving relationship with.
Funeral services were held Oct. 28 at Calvary Baptist Church in New Philadelphia, Ohio, with Pastor Donald Snow officiating. Burial followed at Dover Burial Park.
