WVU Medicine Grant Memorial Hospital in Petersburg, in partnership with the Grant County Chamber of Commerce, hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony and tri-county chamber after-hours event on Sept. 9 to officially launch its new outpatient therapy center.
Nearly 60 community members and local leaders gathered to celebrate this milestone. John Sylvia, GMH president and CEO, opened the event by welcoming attendees and highlighting this occasion as “just the beginning of several upcoming events” marking healthcare expansion in Grant County and the surrounding areas.
Tammy Kesner-Martin, GMH board chair, expressed gratitude for the strong community support and applauded the hospital’s recent successes, including financial stability, expanded healthcare services, and a successful partnership with WVU Medicine.
WVU President Mike Benson, West Virginia University president, shared remarks on his ongoing visits to West Virginia’s counties, appreciating the warm reception and reinforcing the university’s commitment to the people of West Virginia. As the 27th president of WVU, Benson also serves as chair of WVU Medicine. He emphasized that the university belongs to the people of West Virginia and concluded his remarks with the rallying cry, “Let’s Go…Mountaineers!”
The ceremony culminated in a ribbon cutting at the entrance of the new outpatient therapy center. Attendees then enjoyed a reception featuring tours of the therapy rooms, refreshments, and networking opportunities. A gift basket of handcrafted items was presented to the door prize winner, Lauren Arbaugh.
