The night began dreary, with gray skies and threats of rain, but that didn’t stop people from showing up to the opening night of Warner’s Drive-In.
Cars filed in one by one, as patrons pulled out their lawn chairs and blankets, then headed to the concession stand for hot dogs, hamburgers, fries, a cold beverage, and, of course, no movie is complete without popcorn.
Children ran freely and laughter filled the air, while friends visited one another, discussing local gossip, and news.
As the sun set, conversation diminished, the faint smell of popcorn lingered in the air, the movie began, and the clouds opened up for gentle rain. That didn’t discourage patrons. Rather than sitting outside, they just piled back into their cars, and the movie continued. But the rain didn’t last long, and the once dreary skies cleared revealing a sea of stars to brighten the sky.
Warner’s Drive-In is one of only six operating outdoor movie theaters left in West
Virginia.
The theater is open on Fridays and Saturdays, from Memorial Day weekend through the end of August, and is a unique experience for movie-goers, both old and young.
