Nelson Edwin “John” Thompson, 84, of Franklin passed away on March 4, 2025, at the Pendleton Manor in Franklin.
He was born July 15, 1940, in Cherry Grove, the son of the late Everett and Myrtle (Warner) Thompson.
Mr. Thompson was a 1960 graduate of Circleville High School and was a member of Living Faith Church in Franklin.
He loved putting puzzles together, traveling, eating out, and being with family. He had a passion for being outside and took pride in doing yard work.
He was employed by Fairfield Bridge for several years, Thompson’s Trash Company in Winchester, Virginia, City of Winchester Water and retired in 2003 from Old Town Mall, after 19 years of service. Following his retirement in 2005, he moved back to Franklin. He worked for Friends Hill Greenhouse, Sites Fire and Equipment and Murphy’s Fencing.
On June 17, 1961, he married Peggy Elizabeth (Harper) Thompson, who survives.
In addition to his wife, he leaves behind to cherish his memory his brothers, Everett Olin Thompson (Libby) of Bunker Hill and Berlie Thompson (Frances) of Winchester, Virginia; a sister, Mary Ruth Raines of Circleville; nieces and nephews; and his caretaker, Terri Grogg of Franklin.
He was also preceded in death by a brother, Kenneth Harlan Thompson; and a brother-in-law, Bobbie L. Raines.
Funeral services were held Saturday in the chapel of the Basagic Funeral Home in Franklin with Pastor Brad Mitchell officiating. Interment was in North Fork Memorial Cemetery at Riverton.
