The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) announces the end of the second FY22 application evaluation period for the Environmental Quality Incentive Program (EQIP) Potomac Valley Poultry and National Water Quality Incentive (NWQI) Indian Creek Watershed. Producers interested in being considered for financial assistance need to submit applications to NRCS by June 17, according to the news release.
EQIP is a voluntary conservation program that helps agricultural producers in a manner that promotes agricultural production and environmental quality as compatible goals. Through EQIP, agricultural producers receive technical and financial assistance to implement structural and management conservation practices that optimize environmental benefits on working agricultural land.
The Potomac Valley Poultry locally-led initiative is targeted to eligible poultry producers in Mineral, Hampshire, Grant, Hardy, and Pendleton counties. The NWQI Indian Creek Watershed is open to eligible producers with a primary objective of addressing water quality by adopting or enhancing grazing systems. The five contiguous NWQI watersheds on Indian Creek are located in Summers and Monroe counties.
Local NRCS offices accept program applications year round. Application evaluations only take place during announced ranking periods. For consideration in this second round of 2022 federal fiscal year funding, eligible landowners must enroll by submitting their application no later than June 17.
