PETERSBURG – A Pendleton County man is facing six counts of attempted murder and a
single count of driving under the influence related to a March 15 incident in Grant
County. Authorities allege Cameron R. Worthy, 19, of Skiles Pitsenbarger Road in Franklin,
threatened to kill his ex-girlfriend and her family in Grant County. A man called
authorities to report Worthy was on the way to his home with a gun to allegedly shoot his
daughter and his family.In the criminal complaint, authorities allege Worthy’s threat to kill the woman and her
family was heard by multiple people.
Grant County Sheriff Brian Ours and Deputy Seara Mallow drove to the caller’s residence
to wait for Worthy. Authorities said they watched a blue pickup truck pull into the
driveway of the residence. Mallow and Ours ordered Worthy to exit his vehicle. Worthy
stepped out of the vehicle and officers placed hand constraints on him.
In the report, authorities wrote there was a .22-caliber magnum Ruger Precision, a loaded
15-round magazine, two boxes of .22-caliber ammunition and several empty beer cans.
The report stated the rifle was uncased and located on the passenger seat.
Authorities added Worthy had “the odor of alcohol beverages” on his breath as well as his
person. They also said his eyes were “blood shot.” A field sobriety test was given to
Worthy by the authorities, who alleged that he failed it.
Worthy was arrested and read his Miranda rights. Authorities allege Worthy admitted to
threatening to murder his ex-girlfriend and her family. Worthy added he was “upset and
aggravated at everything going on.”
During the investigation, authorities said the alleged victim informed them she had ended
the relationship with Worthy earlier that night. Worthy responded to her comment of
ending the relationship by stating he would drive to her residence and kill her and her
entire family. Later that day, Worthy’s mother, who had also heard the threat, called to
warn the alleged victim’s family that Worthy had removed a rifle from the safe. Worthy’s
mother also informed the alleged victim’s family that she believed he was planning to
drive to their residence. The complaint also stated Worthy’s mother contacted authorities in
Pendleton County regarding the situation.
Later in the day, the alleged victim’s father received a message from Worthy’s mother
stating, “lock the door, he’s headed that way, and get protection.” She added Worthy had
been drinking. In addition to the alleged victim and her father, her mother, aunt,
grandmother and younger sibling were at the residence at the time of the incident.
