Bennie and Mary Alice Evick of Franklin were pleasantly surprised to be the guests of honor at an early Thanksgiving celebration Nov. 17 at the Smith Creek Church of the Brethren.
During the worship service, the Evicks were remembered for their many acts of kindness and dedication to the church.
A beautiful engraved photo plaque was presented to them with the engraving “To Bennie and Mary Alice Evick for their many years of stewardship to Smith Creek Church of the Brethren.”
On June 17, 1962, they joined the church. The couple was married Aug. 6, 1961, at the church. They raised three children, Steve, David and Kim, and attended services every Sunday.
The Evicks have been instrumental in heading up and working behind the scenes and keeping the church running smoothly since joining the church. They have also worked tirelessly for the church with Bennie Evick keeping the parsonage maintained, often paying for the upkeep.
Between his mechanical skills and her culinary skills, not to mention sometimes being her husband’s assistant, the couple has been a match made in heaven.
The Smith Creek Church of the Brethren congregation is very grateful and thankful for the Evicks. Well done, thou good and faithful servants.
The celebration meal consisted of turkey, ham and all the trimmings. A cake thanking the Evicks was the centerpiece amid the fall color scheme.
