Juniors Riley Apple and Gage Sites-Woods each finished first in one event at the recent Potomac Valley Conference track championships.
Apple took first in the 300-meter hurdles and Sites-Woods was victorious in the 3,200-meter run. Apple’s finish propelled the Pendleton County girls track team to finish sixth in the PVC track meet. Sites-Woods’ victory led Pendleton to earn seventh place in the PVC boys track meet.
Apple finished in a time of 53.39 to edge Union’s Channelle Sutton by less than .2 of a second. She competed in two other events at the meet.
Apple took third in the long jump with a leap of 14 feet, 9 1/2 inches. Joie Bell from Tygarts Valley finished first, jumping 15 feet, 8 1/2 inches.
Apple was seventh in the 100-meter run in a time of 14.72. Holly Snyder of East Hardy was first with a time of 13.4.
Freshman Laney Sites-Woods took second in the 400-meter run with a time of 1:10.34. Brooklyn Tinnell from East Hardy captured first in a time of 1:08.49.
Freshman Addie Rexrode grabbed second in the 3,200-meter run in a time of 19:54.85. Laney Sites-Woods was third in the 3,200-meter run in a time of 20:03.32. Freshman Emma Hartman finished fourth with a time of 20:12.39. Erin Chambers from Tucker County was first in a time of 13:06.15.
Rexrode was third in the high jump with a jump of 4 feet. Union’s Bridgette Knapp was first with a jump of 4 feet, 10 inches.
Sophomore BreAnna Wolfe was sixth in the discus with a toss of 60 feet, 10 inches. East Hardy’s Jessica Deck was first with a toss of 93 feet, 5 inches.
Wolfe was 10th in the shot put with a throw of 21 feet, 10 inches. Rhen Hedrick of Petersburg was first with a throw of 33 feet, 4 inches.
The Pendleton 4×400-meter relay team of Laney Sites-Woods, Hartman, Rexrode and Apple finished fifth with a time of 5:20.19. Pocahontas took first with a time of 4:43.15.
The Pendleton boys team finished seventh at the PVC Division 2 track meet with 39 points. Petersburg captured the title with 113 points. Tucker County was second with 99 points. Tygarts Valley took third with 81 points.
Gage Sites-Woods completed the 3,200-meter race in a time of 11:59.57. Freshman Thunder Gill was fifth with a time of 12:38.79. Senior Caleb Lockard took ninth in a time of 13:45.54. Benjamin Montgomery from East Hardy finished second with a time of 12:05.49.
In addition to his victory, Gage Sites-Woods finished second in two races – 800-meter and 1,600-meter. He finished the 800-meter run in a time of 2:13.35. Donnie Tanouye from Paw Paw was first with a time of 2:10.38.
Gage Sites-Woods completed the 1,600-meter run in a time of 4:59.22. Gill was seventh with a time of 5:43.25. Lockard took 12th in a time of 7:15.7. Tanouye earned the victory in the 1,600-meter race with a time of 4:54.74.
Gage Sites-Woods took third in the shot put with a toss of 38 feet. Junior Evan Teter was 18th in the shot put with a toss of 29 feet, 5 inches. Freshman Ryland Copley finished 24th in the shot put with a toss of 21 feet, 10 inches. Fellow freshman Andrew Mowery took 25th with a throw of 19 feet, 9 inches. Paw Paw’s Dalton Kasekamp finished first with a toss of 44 feet, 8 inches.
Freshman Sawyer Apple was fifth in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 52.54. Petersburg’s Ethan Taylor took the PVC title in a time of 46.52
Apple was also fifth in the high jump competition, successfully clearing 5 feet. Petersburg’s Wyatt Nuzum was first with a jump of 5 feet, 6 inches.
Sophomore Marcus Smith was seventh in the long jump with a leap of 16 feet, 1 inch. Brindle Rowe from Petersburg was first with a jump of 19 feet, 2 inches.
Copley paced Pendleton in the discus with a 14th-place finish with a throw of 84 feet, 9 inches. Teter was 19th with a throw of 69 feet, 11 inches. Mowery took 24th with a throw of 56 feet, 5 inches. Paw Paw’s Kasekamp won the event with a throw of 130 feet, 5 inches.
Pendleton County 4×800-meter relay team of Smith, Apple, Gill and Lockard was fifth in a time of 11:02.13. Tucker County claimed first with a time of 9:24.11.
