June Rosalee “Rosie” Smith, 85, of Petersburg passed away March 21, 2024, at Autumn Lake Healthcare of Crystal Springs in Elkins.
She was born on Nov. 30, 1938, in Riverton, the daughter of the late Jesse James Thompson and Merlie (Maysell) Vandevander.
Mrs. Smith graduated in 1956 from Circleville High School and was a Christian by faith.
She worked as a secretary for the Brooking Institute in Washington, DC.
She was always on the go, looking for her next adventure, traveling wherever the roads may lead. In her spare time, she enjoyed reading and offering a helping hand to friends and family. She was well known for her home remedies or just to give a piece of advice to anyone in need.
Her husband, Alvin Smith, preceded her in death on Sept. 17, 1995.
She leaves behind to cherish her memories two sisters, Rebecca Kline of Waldorf, Maryland, and Betty Bennett of Cherry Grove; and several nieces and nephews, including a special great-niece, Kayla Lantz of Petersburg.
She was also preceded in death by a brother, George Thompson; and four sisters, Virginia Thompson, Bessie Turner, Ruby Thompson, and Dorothy Jean “Dot” Lantz.
In honoring her wishes, her body was cremated.
A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday at the North Fork Cemetery in Riverton with Pastor J.D. Wilkins officiating.
