Noah Junior Mallow, 83, of Franklin passed away Sept. 4, 2024, at Sentara RMH in Harrisonburg, Virginia, after a brief illness.
He was born on May 4, 1941, at Cabins, the son of the late Mason Wade and Dovie Alice (Watts) Mallow.
Mr. Mallow attended Petersburg High School. He had worked at Franklin Oil Company, Ruddle Equipment, and Hanover Shoe Company for 32 years. He was a jack of all trades and applied his skills in small engine repair at Sites Fire & Safety Equipment, where he had been employed for more than 30 years.
He expressed his dedication to his community and Franklin Volunteer Fire Department by joining Company #2, as Firefighter #216, on Dec. 16, 1966, and serving as a member for 57 years. He was a loyal member and he became famous for his country ham sandwiches that he was committed to serving from the Boar’s Nest at the fire department functions.
He had a passion for hunting, fishing and watching Pendleton County High School football. He received well-deserved recognition for his chainsaw sharpening skills and gardening skills. He had a green thumb and a special touch in growing enormous pumpkins.
He was a very kind and generous man with a servant’s heart. He was devoted to his family and took pride in his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His legacy of love will continue to live through each of them as he left an imprint on each of their lives.
On Dec. 10, 1962, he married the love of his life, Thelma Ruth (Hartman) Mallow, who preceded him in death on Feb. 5, 2020.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory a son, Noah Jay Mallow of Franklin; two stepsons, Rick Warner (Brenda), of Franklin, and Joey Warner (Connie) of Bellingham, Washington; a stepdaughter, Jackie Pennybacker (Carroll) of Harrisonburg, Virginia; four brothers, Melvin Mallow (Wilma) of Rig, Roy “Tobe” Mallow of Fairfax, Virginia, Earl Mallow (Robin) and Eston Mallow (Linda), all of Cabins; five grandchildren, Valerie, Michael, Jessica, Kimberly, and Shawn; and four great-grandchildren, Carter, Bryce, Sadie, and Tinley.
