Charles “Charlie” Lester Evick, 88, a resident of Harrisonburg, Virginia, passed away May 31, 2024, at Sentara RMH Medical Center in Harrisonburg, Virginia.
He was born on Nov. 13, 1935, in Brandywine and was a son of the late Charles Lester and Treva Rexrode Evick.
Mr. Evick served in the United States Army and received the Good Conduct Medal while serving.
He worked as a route salesman for Murray Biscuit Company and later Harrisonburg Auto Auction. Upon his retirement, he volunteered for Sentara RMH Hospital.
He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed gardening, hunting and fishing. He loved his family very much and enjoyed spending time with them. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church where he served as a deacon.
On March 26, 1960, he married Gretta Skidmore Evick, who survives.
Also surviving are his children, Sandra Evick of Broadway, Virginia, and Danny Evick and wife, Marianne of Bridgwater, Virginia; a brother, James Evick of Charlottesville, Virginia; a sister, Janet Zirk of Milam; grandchildren, Jeremiah Shiflet and wife, Ally Reed, Morgan D. Evick, Kyle H. Evick, and Anabelle Da’Rosa; a great-grandchild, Shiloh Shiflet; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was also preceded in death by a sister, Emma Jean Thomas; and brothers, William Evick and LeeRoy Evick.
A graveside service was held Tuesday at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Franklin. Military rites were by the Dayton American Legion Post 27. A memorial service was also held Tuesday at First Presbyterian Church in Harrisonburg, Virginia, with Pastor Scott Thayer Officiating all services.
