Sugar Grove

Although Mother’s Day is now history, the following depicts the many “hats” that mothers wear. It just makes sense to continue highlighting mothers! This comes from an unknown source:
My mother taught me TO APPRECIATE A JOB WELL DONE.
“If you’re going to kill each other, do it outside. I just finished cleaning.”
My mother taught me RELIGION.
“You better pray that will come out of the carpet.”
My mother taught me LOGIC.
“Because I said so, that’s why.”
My mother taught me MORE LOGIC.
“If you fall out of that swing and break your neck, you’re not going to the store with me.”
My mother taught me FORESIGHT.
“Make sure you wear clean underwear, in case you’re in an accident.”
My mother taught me IRONY.
“Keep crying, and I’ll give you something to cry about.”
My mother taught me about STAMINA.
“You’ll sit there until all that spinach is gone.”
My mother taught me about WEATHER.
“This room of yours looks as if a tornado went through it.”
My mother taught me the CIRCLE OF LIFE.
“I brought you into this world, and I can take you out.”
My mother taught me about ENVY.
“There are millions of less fortunate children in this world who don’t have wonderful parents like you do.”
My mother taught me about ANTICIPATION.
“Just wait until we get home.”
My mother taught me MEDICAL SCIENCE.
“If you don’t stop crossing your eyes, they are going to freeze that way.”
My mother taught me HUMOR.
“When that lawn mower cuts off your toes, don’t come running to me.”
My mother taught me HOW TO BECOME AN ADULT.
“If you don’t eat your vegetables, you’ll never grow up.”
My mother taught me about GENETICS.
“You’re just like your father.”
My mother taught me WISDOM.
“When you get to be my age, you’ll understand.”
And my favorite: My mother taught me about JUSTICE
“One day you’ll have kids, and I hope they turn out just like you!”
Life’s little lessons include the following:
- Get up earlier.
- Take a deep breath.
- Stop and smell the roses.
- Read good books.
- Screen one’s calls.
The weather has been rather mixed up lately. One day the temperature is in the 80s and the next day it is in the 30s. Occasionally there are a few showers accompanied with lots of wind. Ruthalene May reported 33 degrees with a frost Monday morning. That’s quite a change!
Quotes for the week are as follows:
“Tell me, what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?” — Mark Oliver
“Believe in yourself. Know that there is something inside you that is greater than any obstacle.” — Christian D. Larson
“Love is composed of a single soul inhabiting two bodies.” — Aristotle
“When the power of love overcomes the love of power, the world will know peace.” — Jimi Hendrix
“At the end of the day, what really matters is that your loved ones are well, you’ve done your best, and that you’re thankful for all you have.” — Unknown.
Sitting inside to watch it rain is also a good place to hear the “Talk of the Grove.”
A flag has been flying at the Cold Springs on Reddish Knob for quite some time. This serves as a reminder of patriotism.
Saturday, Benny and Linda Custer and Judy Rader enjoyed visiting in the home of Jimmy and Robyn Reed in Culpeper, Virginia.
Imagine seeing the northern lights in West Virginia. That beautiful sight was seen Friday evening by many residents.
On Sunday, the Robby Fisher family enjoyed Mother’s Day with Brenda Fisher at the Family Dining Restaurant in Brandywine.
Janet Judy and Evelyn Varner motored to McGaheysville, Virginia, to visit with Evelyn’s niece, Donna DuFrene of Louisiana.
Evelyn Varner was accompanied by her daughters, Joyce Marshall, Janet Judy, and Judy Costelo, to see the Sight and Sound production of “Daniel” in Pennsylvania.
Donnie and Marty Smith of Bridgewater, Virginia, visited with Evelyn Varner on Saturday. Then on Sunday, Evelyn enjoyed the Down East Boys from North Carolina who played their gospel music at the Assembly of God in Harrisonburg, Virginia.
Bob and Judy Grimm enjoyed Mother’s Day weekend with Rodney Kiser and family. Everyone had a wonderful weekend in Preston County.
This week’s clickety-clacks for the chin waggers are as follows
- The left lung is smaller than one’s right one.
- Sir Isaac Newton invented the color wheel.
- Avocados used to be called alligator pears.
- The longest home run was hit during a minor league game.
