Darlene Swadley Pickens, passed away suddenly on May 6, 2024.
Her parents, Virgil H. and Ruby B. Swadley, preceded her in death.
Mrs. Pickens was a member of the McLean High School Class of 1964. In 1968, she earned a bachelor’s degree from Madison College, where she was a Phi Mu.
From 1972 until her retirement in 2000, she shared her love of books with countless students as an elementary school librarian in Henrico County Public Schools. In retirement, she enjoyed participating in book clubs, knitting, and doting on her beloved grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Jim.
Also surviving are her children, Erin (Jonathan) Williams and Andrew (Emily) Pickens; grandchildren, Colin, Cash, and Grace Williams and Knox and Lacey Pickens; and siblings, Virgil (Erica) Swadley and Sharen Swadley (Stephen Schenk).
A visitation was held at Bliley’s on Augusta Avenue in Richmond, Virginia.
A celebration of her life was held at Three Chopt Presbyterian Church in Richmond, Virginia. A private burial was in Riverton.
