U.S. Army veteran Gene Boggs of Franklin and U.S. Air Force veteran George Armstrong of Fort Seybert were awarded the American Legion Certificate of Continuous Membership. The award is issued in “grateful appreciation for faithful and dedicated allegiance to the ideals of the American Legion.” Both veterans have been members in good standing of Franklin Post 30 for 50 years.
Legionnaires are veterans strengthening America, and all honorably discharged military persons are welcome. Post 30 meets monthly on the second Wednesday of each month at the Star Restaurant.
The American Legion was chartered by Congress in 1919 as a patriotic veteran’s organization. Focusing on service to veterans, servicemembers and communities, the legion evolved from a group of war-weary veterans of World War I into one of the most influential nonprofit groups in the United States.
