Michael Dale Bland, 64, of Petersburg passed away on March 31, 2024, at Berkeley Medical Center in Martinsburg.
He was born on July 2, 1959, in Petersburg, the son of the late Harry Dale “Tootsie” Bland and Ethel Marie (Lambert) Bland of Riverton.
Mr. Bland attended Circleville High School and formerly went to the Riverton United Methodist Church. He was a supervisor for Advantage Foods and had also worked for Walmart and Pilgrim’s Pride in Moorefield.
A true West Virginian, he enjoyed most outdoor sports, including hunting and fishing. In his spare time, he could be found working on old vehicles and loved to be surrounded by his family and friends, especially his grandchildren.
On Oct. 12, 2002, Michael married Lora (Chapman) Bland, who survives.
Also surviving are a daughter, April Whetzel (Jeremy) of Petersburg; a son, Cody Bland (Sarah Keplinger) of Petersburg; a sister, Katherine “Kathy” Arbaugh of Harrisonburg, Virginia; a brother, Matthew Bland of Medley; six grandchildren, Adam and Jacob Whetzel and Christine, Ava, and Negan Bland.
He was also preceded in death by a grandson, Harry Alan Max Bland.
The family will receive friends from noon to 2 p.m. today at the Basagic Funeral Home in Petersburg. Funeral services will follow in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Michael Clements officiating. Interment will be at the Bland Family Cemetery in Riverton.
