The rainy weather played havoc on Pendleton coach Sam Yokum’s plan to find innings for his inexperienced pitchers.
Pendleton was forced to postpone four contests in the last week – single games against Tygarts Valley and East Hardy and a doubleheader with Spring Mills – due to rain or poor field conditions. Pendleton’s lone contest during this period was a home game on April 11 against Bath County (Virginia).
The Wildcats got back on the winning track with a 12-2 victory against the Chargers in six innings. Allden Rexrode led Pendleton on the mound and offensive in the win over Bath County. Rexrode hurled three innings, allowed three hits and two runs. He struck out seven in securing the victory. Rexrode added three hits, including a double, and scored three times.
Landon Colaw pitched two innings and struck out five. Clayton Kisamore went one inning and struck out the side. Both Colaw and Kisamore, like Rexrode, shined at the plate. Kisamore recorded three hits, three runs batted in and scored three times. Colaw had two hits and two RBIs.
Josiah Kimble and Evan Teter both had two hits for the Wildcats. Teter notched an RBI. Jayden Roberson had a hit in the win.
Yokum added he hopes to find time on the mound for Braydon Beachler and Teter to gain experience.
“This would have been a good game to try to use our fourth, fifth and sixth pitchers,” Yokum said. “We haven’t played in a week so we needed to get Allden, Landon and Clayton some work. Plus, there is a chance for rain later in the week.”
Pendleton was scheduled to return to action April 13 against Point Pleasant in Franklin. Pendleton is slated to square off against Keyser Friday in the Tournament of Legends in Keyser. The winner of the contest will take on the winner of the Hampshire-Petersburg contest later that day for the championship. The losing teams will battle in the consolation clash.
“We hope to get all the games in on Friday,” Yokum said. “If the weather cooperates.”
