Naomi Wilfong Mitchell, 97, of Sugar Grove died Dec. 27, 2023, at Pendleton Manor in Franklin.
She was born Dec. 1, 1926, and was the daughter of the late John Boyd Wilfong and Rosa Florence Varner Wilfong.
Mrs. Mitchell was a graduate of the Franklin High School Class of 1947. She was a homemaker and loved animals, especially her cats.
She was a member of St. Michaels Lutheran Church, the Home Demonstration Club, V.F.W. Post 9666 Ladies Auxiliary and the Pendleton County Historical Society. She enjoyed decorating cakes, crocheting, gardening and researching genealogy.
She was also preceded in death by her first husband, Garland Edward Sheffer, and by her second husband, Other C. “Dick” Mitchell.
Surviving are a son, Gary Sheffer of Sugar Grove; a special friend, Linda Sheffer of Sugar Grove; a step-granddaughter, Renee Saylor of Lacey Springs; a step-great-granddaughter, Laura Reubush of Rockingham, Virginia; and a step-great-grandson, Timothy Eckard of Timberville, Virginia.
A graveside service was held Sunday at St. Michael Church Cemetery in Sugar Grove with Pastor Jerry Smith officiating.
